SEVERED - SIMON KERNICK

If your into really fast paced action thrillers then you really shouldn't hesitate to read this book, it's brillopads. From the first chapter it hooks you, and the basic story is about this guy, Tyler, who wakes up next to his girlfriend one morning, rolls over to give her a kiss, except she's dead.

So he does the human thing and freaks out about lying in a pool of blood next to this headless corpse, and then he sees this tape, he plays it and there's a video of him killing her, except he can't remember anything from the night before. If your not hooked by this point in my review then you really should just stop reading right about now :).

Oh and before anyone gets lairy, no i haven't just given away nearly all the story because it just goes on from there and you get so involved in his story you probably won't put it down until you've finished it, (cliche i know).

Granted, the actual writing isn't that great, granted the book is very 'jumpy', by that I purely mean it just moves on a lot within a single chapter, but it undeniably has that page turner ingredient (lol at how I'm making it sounds like a cake). The thing i liked most when i was reading this was the way that I couldn't see what was going to happen next, whenever you thought he was cornered, he got out, whenever you thought you had finally figured out the plot, it twisted. It really kept me on my toes. So much so i recommended it to my boyfriend who doesn't really view himself as book-friendly, needless to say, he thought it was great as well.

The ending also comes as quite a shock, although, to be honest it could be interpreted as quite a weak ending for quite a strong story, but it just depends on your take of the book.

THE CHOCOLATE RUN - DOROTHY KOOMSON

This book is perfect if your in that post break-up stage where all you do is mope around the house, eat chocolate and bitch about how little your ex knew about your feelings and how they had the emotional range of a teaspoon (and yes, I did steal that from Harry Potter). The reason I say all this is because The Chocolate Run starts with anti-marriage, anti-relationship and anti-men female protagonist Amber Salpone sleeping (unexpectedly) with her male 'tart' bestfriend, Greg.
Amber, being one of those sickeningly unique and individual women that men love, immediately tries to write off the experience between her and Greg as a mistake, but as the plot unfolds it becomes obvious that Amber is hiding something (looking suspiciously like a flame) concerning Greg and her feelings for him.

The Chocolate Run is rather like a romantic comedy in the way that at the beginning you learn to love the two individual people, who simply cannot see they are meant to be together, in the middle they get together and then there follows a complicating event, that could seemingly shatter their newfound relationship. In TCR, this complicating event comes in the form of Greg and Amber's best friends Matt and Jen, without giving too much away, there are lots of little subplots that affect the actual plot, on the whole, making the book a bit like an onion, you have to peel back a lot of layers to get to the centre (that's basically a long winded way of saying it takes quite a few chapters to get into the story).

Throughout the book analogies are made to chocolate, Amber Salpone is a chocoholic in the true sense of the phrase, and her love for the cocoa treat gives that much needed break from the drama unfolding in the book. At various points in the book, it resembles a screen play, mirroring Amber's dream of becoming a director.

Overall, what you see is what you get with this book, don't turn the pages expecting a life changing novel because that simply is not what you will find, but if you start to read it for a relaxing, easy to digest story then you will be pleasantly surprised, and if you ARE reading it at the end of a break up, you might just turn the last page and it wont seem so bad :)

INTRODUCTION TO MY NEW BLOG!

Hi everyone,
Recently somebody pointed out that i read A LOT of books, so, it got me thinking about how much is annoys me when i'm trying to get on reading book in question and people ask me what its about, is it good, what the plot is like etc.
Soo, i decided to start this little beaut of a blog to let everybody know what i think about books, and maybe even sometimes films.

I've decided on 5 main points used to rate books at the end of my reviews, sort of to, sum it up if you know what i mean, in turn they will then have an overall score out of 50, so if you can't be arsed to read all the wordy stuff you can just skip right down to the statistics if you are more of a positivist thinker.

I'd really like some feedback, otherwise i'll just be wasting my time doing nothing, so anything is appreciated :)

P.S If you have read a book and would like it reviewed, or maybe something you have written yourself then just send an email and i'll try get back to everybody (she says in vain hoping this blog is a success and people are actually interested)

Okayy, bye for now!
